JKCC Ranked Uganda’s 11th Coffee Exporter

Just Know your Coffee Cup (JKCC) General Supplies Ltd is now Uganda’s 11th best exporting company according to Uganda Coffee Development Authority rankings.

JKCC which started coffee export business less than five months ago is behind companies with big names among which are Ugacof (U) Ltd, Olam(U) Ltd, Louis Dreyfus company (U) Ltd, Kyagalanyi Coffee Ltd, Kawacom (U) Ltd among others.

Julius Kalulu, the CEO of JKCC was excited about the tremendous performance in the shortest time. He noted that with this trend, the sky is the limit.  Kalulu attributed the best performance to his vibrant team of youths that source coffee directly from farmers in form of FAQ of high quality coffee and have high yields to meet the demand. He added that they process the FAQ into green beans of screen 1800, screen 1500, screen 1200, BHP, BLACKS before they are ready for export.

The UCDA’s October report released on the 15th November 2021 that puts JKCC in the 11th position follows the recent revelation by Dr. Emmanuel Iyamulemye, the Managing Director at Uganda Coffee Development Authority putting Uganda at the 7th position in the latest global rankings of the 10 top coffee producers in the world.

Iyamulemye was quoting the International Coffee Organization production figures for 2020/21 that saw Uganda rise from 8th to 7th position.

“Uganda’s coffee story is entering an exciting phase,” Iyamulemye said.

He adds that with the Coffee Act now in place, “we expect accelerated growth in the sector. We will work with all sector players to ensure quality, improve productivity, grow domestic consumption and support coffee farmers, both large & small-holders, to thrive.”

Uganda’s Coffee exports for the 12 months (Financial year 2020/21) amounted to 6,078,638 60-kilo bags worth US$ 559.26 million compared to 5,105,881-kilo bags valued at US$ 496.28 million the previous year (Financial Year 2019/20).

This represents 19.05% and 12.69% increase in both quantity and value respectively. The total quantity of exports in 12 months was the highest in 30 years.

In August 2021, Uganda overtook Vietnam as the second-largest supplier of coffee to Italy behind Brazil, Uganda Coffee Development Authority.
