Addressing Coffee Farming Challenges: JKCC and Global Social Impact Investments Carries a Survey on coffee Farmers 2024.

JKCC General supplies Ltd and it’s Partner Global Social Impact Investments conducted a survey to Address challenges coffee farmers face in central parts /regions Uganda. The districts that the survey was being conducted include; Wakiso, Mpigi, Butambala, and Gomba. The surveyors met different groups of farmers across  the four districts . These included;  Nazinga coffee farmer’s Co-orperative, KKumbya coffee farmers, Mpenja Mpogo Coffee Farmers, And Bunga coffee farmers cooperative. The activity was conducted on one to one, where farmers where interviewed by the field officers and information was collected.

Challenges Faced by Coffee Farmers.

The farmers in their respective groups across all districts in central Uganda were interviewed and had  common  challenges faced.

  1. Farmers have no access to milling machine where they could process or mil their coffee from. To increase quality. this has led to low income generated from selling un processed coffee.
  2. Inadequate funds to be able to increase their level of production. Incase a small holder coffee farmer need to increase production, they find it difficult to get capital since financial institution found in their area offer credit services at high interest rates, hard collateral security put on loans.
  3. Coffee theft. Farmers have no security to their coffee farms leaving them vulnerable to thieves who harvest unready coffee.

In order to boost the coffee agricultural/ farming, Farmer’s suggested, if the above challenges are mitigated or worked upon. It will improve their livelihood, delivery of high-quality products to the market. And there will be increase in productivity.

Farmers positively appreciated JKCC General Supplies Ltd for the works done and support given to the respective groups. Offer better prices which has Eliminated middle Men who buy coffee at low prices, Sharing market and price information to cooperatives. Extending Trainings on post-harvest handling, coffee growing, stumping and Farm management. offering free coffee seedling, Fertilizers and financial assistance.
